Royals pitcher Jake Junis has had many call ups to Kansas City this season

Jake Junis holds a Kansas City Royals record, although not verified, as a rookie. He has been called up a half dozen times this season from Triple-A Omaha. Twice he wasn’t even with the big league club for 24 hours as the 26th man for doubleheaders.

“Six times, I’ve been all over the place this summer,” Junis said.

Closing the deal: K-State’s Jesse Ertz will succeed this season

There’s a sales method used when trying to persuade a potential client to purchase an item called the “Ben Franklin Close.” You place all the reasons for buying the product on one side and all the reasons for not buying it on the other side. If head coach Bill Snyder wants to use the Ben Franklin formula for evaluating whether quarterback Jesse Ertz will have a great senior season, the plusses far outweigh the minuses.

Let’s examine them:

Talented Dorance Armstrong anchors Kansas Jayhawks’ defense

Dorance Armstrong is his name, and terrorizing opposing offenses is his game. With continued improvement, this explosive junior just might become the premier defensive end in the country.

He’s simply the face of Kansas football, a surefire NFL first-round prospect. He’s the preseason Big 12 Defensive Player of the Year who led the league with 20 tackles for a loss last season (No. 5 in FBS) and ranked No. 18 nationally with 10 sacks while being named a consensus All-Conference First-Team selection.

Mizzou’s Drew Lock eyes breakout campaign after last year’s learning curves

Coming off a four-win sophomore campaign, Missouri quarterback Drew Lock recalls two games helped him develop a new mindset for 2017.

One resulted in the Tigers’ third straight loss against Georgia last September. Lock had set his conference single-game highs with three touchdowns and 376 yards, but also tossed three interceptions in a turnover heavy half, which aided the Bulldogs to a late comeback.

“You throw 330 yards in one half, you want to come out and possibly do the same thing (in the second half),” Lock said about the Georgia loss.
