The Chiefs have a great history of the players they’ve selected as third round draft picks in the NFL Draft. They have made huge contributions to the franchise during their time, especially recently. Also, as a reminder, every pick the Chiefs have made, including while they were in the AFL, are in consideration. With all that said, let’s continue our series and take a look at the best third round draft picks made by the Chiefs.
MARCH 2017 – Eric Berry will be back, but Jamaal Charles will not be as the Kansas City Chiefs made a couple of significant moves entering March.
Berry agreed to a six-year $78 million contract making him the highest paid safety in NFL history.
“Keeping Eric Berry in a Chiefs uniform long-term has been a significant goal of ours,” Chiefs general manager John Dorsey said. “He’s a special football player and an incredible person. We’re thrilled we were able to get this deal done.”
Coach Andy Reid called Berry “one of the backbones of our defense and a team leader.”
DECEMBER 2016 – Happy Festivus KC! Among all the celebrations each holiday season, this might be one of my favorites to recognize and celebrate. For those of you who don’t know what Festivus is, I’ve included a link here from the episode of “Seinfeld” that created this holiday.
One of this holiday’s traditions is the airing of grievances, in which you tell people all the ways they have disappointed you this year. While this year has had some great moments for Kansas City teams, there have been some disappointments.
To honor this tradition, here are the top five grievances about our local sports teams and players I would like to air on this day of Festivus (Just a note, I have nothing against these players/teams, they have just been disappointing this year). In the words of Frank Costanza, “I’ve got a lot of problems with you people! Now you’re going to hear about it!”
AUGUST 2015 – I seem to have a better grasp of predictions for the Kansas City Royals than I do the Chiefs. I tend to miss the Royals’ won-loss record by one or two games. Don’t believe me? Check my right-on forecasts the past three years for the Royals.
For the second straight year, I have been dyslexic in my Chiefs’ preseason predictions. Three years ago I was on fire, but after predicting 4-12 and 7-9 the past two years, then I am considering going with a 2-14 mark this year and watch KC dominate the AFC West.
