Mizzou’s Drew Lock eyes breakout campaign after last year’s learning curves

Coming off a four-win sophomore campaign, Missouri quarterback Drew Lock recalls two games helped him develop a new mindset for 2017.

One resulted in the Tigers’ third straight loss against Georgia last September. Lock had set his conference single-game highs with three touchdowns and 376 yards, but also tossed three interceptions in a turnover heavy half, which aided the Bulldogs to a late comeback.

“You throw 330 yards in one half, you want to come out and possibly do the same thing (in the second half),” Lock said about the Georgia loss.

Kansas State should contend for Big 12 Football Championship + optimism high for better Days at Kansas and Missouri

KU-MU-KSU football

One has high aspirations, another is hoping to continue recent moderate progress and the third is hoping to make a quick turnaround from recent failures. That’s the story line for the area’s Division I football programs.

Kansas State’s football program is dreaming of a landmark season, with the goal of bringing home the league crown. The Kansas football program has only won two games the last two seasons, and 14 over the last seven campaigns, but there’s optimism in Lawrence that hasn’t been there in several years. Missouri’s football program is hoping a 4-8 season in 2016, in coach Barry Odom’s first season, is an aberration, not the start of a trend.

Barry Odom replaces Pinkel as Missouri football coach

Barry Odom MU

JANUARY 2016 – Barry Odom might not have been the first choice to replace Gary Pinkel as the Missouri football coach, but he appears to be a popular choice

Pinkel, who spent 15 years at Missouri, is the winningest football coach in the university’s history, but he resigned in November after being diagnosed with non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma in May.

Pinkel went 23-5 and won back-to-back Southeastern Conference East Division titles in 2013-14.
